Outburst of Flavor

By Carol Adams
Read Colossians 1:27; 2 Corinthians 2:14; Psalm 34:8

There isn’t anything like coffee brewing. It is tantalizing to the senses, even if you are not a coffee lover!

There are many different types of coffee blends which are unique in taste and flavor. Some flavors are exotic, strong, bold, sweet, nutty, mellow, and full-bodied.

One feature of coffee flavor is full-bodied. This means that it has the richness of flavor or aroma. That is how it is with Jesus Christ living in us. He brings to us the richness of who He is in our lives. As the coffee bean is crushed and ground, so was our Lord on the Cross. He was bruised, wounded, oppressed and afflicted for our sins. Out of the crushing, comes the aroma and richness, full-bodied in flavor of Jesus Christ.

Just as the coffee bean is the container of flavor, taste and enjoyment, so is Jesus Christ in us. Psalm 34:8 says, “Oh, taste and see that the Lord God is good.” We are containers of His life, holiness and righteousness as seen in Colossians 1: 27.

Christ did not only accomplish salvation for us, He broke the power of sin in our lives because of what He endured. In Romans 6, 7, and 8, we are told that we died, we were

buried, and that we rose to new life to live victoriously over sin.

As the coffee bean diffuses its aroma to our senses, so the fragrance of Christ “in” us infiltrates those coming to faith in Christ and to those who are perishing. Those that reject the gospel of salvation will remember the scent and fragrance of Christ as they perish eternally; but those coming to salvation, the perfume will fill their senses and it will be sweeter than the honeycomb. The preaching of God’s Word will be delightful and profitable to them, and the end result is eternal life. Thus, in turn, we become a sweet aroma to God as He diffuses the fragrance of who He is in every place [ 2 Corinthians 2:14].

Are we bursting with His fragrance in us? We are the essence of Christ’s perfume.
